ALL about Our Dogs!

Summer 2013, August

Today's Theme: Dogs!!

P.S. So sorry guys for not posting in a while. We have been really busy traveling.

Today we are going to talk about our favorite subject yet, DOGS (how surprising)! Not any dogs, the best dogs in the world, ours!

Meet Chesapeake, A's dog, the friendliest, fluffiest, smartest, cutest, softest, funniest dog known to humanity, no joke.

A's dog is a Portuguese Water Dog. Though he looks three, he is in fact seven, SURPRISE! One of the many things that is good about this breed is that they don't shed.HURRAY! Portuguese Water Dogs have really interesting backgrounds. According to Wikipedia, they were classified by the American Kennel Club as a working breed. This breed is originally from the Portuguese region of Algarve. They were taught to herd fish into the fishermen's nets, to retrieve lost tackle or broken nets, and to act as couriers from ship to ship. They worked their way from the Atlantic waters of Portugal to the fishing waters off the cost of Iceland. Portuguese Water Dogs were often taken with sailors during the Portuguese discoveries.

Now let's talk about Chesapeake, known as Chessy, Chpeakee, or Chocapic (a French cereal). They're many nicknames, too many to type. Shall we get started with the story of how A got her dog? She was seven then, and the most excited girl in the world because today she was getting a dog. It was a  Thursday, which means of course SCHOOL! After a long day of waiting in a boring classroom, the bell rang "Driiiiinggg!" When she rushed out of the classroom to her mother, who came to pick her up, A noticed her mom wearing a thick black scarf.
"Where's the puppy?" A asked.
Then she notices, that it was not a scarf around her neck but her new puppy,Chesapeake! She picks him up with a huge smile on her face. Later that day, her mother told her that when she went to go pick up Chessy, she walked in the breeders house, and Chessy sat between her legs. To A, this still sounds like a movie or a book and slightly magical. That was one of her happiest moments of her life.

Now let's meet J's dog, Freeway, the cutest, sweetest, playfulest, littlest dog known to humanity.

J's dog is a Maltese. Just like the Portuguese Water Dog, the Maltese doesn't shed! Yay! According to Wikipedia, the Maltese is a small breed of dog in the Toy Group. It descends from dogs originating in the Central Mediterranean area. This breed is very ancient and has been known by a variety of names throughout the centuries. They were originally called the "Canis Melitaeus" in Latin and known in English as "ancient dog of Malta", Roman Ladies Dog", and the "Maltese Lion Dog". The Maltese has falsely been known as the Bichon because that name refers to the family of the small long-haired dogs and not as the Maltese.

Now let's talk about Freeway, also known as Cheesecake, BuddyBoy,and Lover Butt. There are many more but there wasn't enough room to type. When J was 9, she asked her parents if she could get a dog for her birthday. They said no. The next year, J asked again and they said yes. But her parents said that if she wanted a dog, J would have to research the right dog for their family,  it had to be a small dog, and J had to be the one to take care of the dog, not them. J's parents also said that they would rescue their dog from the animal shelter or from an online website. J got right to work and took out dog breed books from the library to research the perfect kind of dog for her family. J's family went to shelters near their neighborhood, but the shelters didn't have small dogs. It took two years to look for the right dog, but finally SUCCESS! J found Freeway on petfinder.com. Freeway was two years old when J's family got him. He was an adult( which was what they wanted )and he was house/ broken. The lady who was fostering him said he was found in Florida wondering by the Freeway and the people who found him named him Freeway.

That is the story of how A got Chesapeake and of how J got Freeway.

We hope you found this interesting,
xoxo
